Traineeships explained…
A Traineeship is a programme of structured training which combines a mix of learning in an education/ training setting and in the workplace. It aims to improve employment outcomes for participants and increase retention and productivity within industry. They are open for application to school leavers, mature learners and those in or seeking employment.
Traineeships enable learners to develop cutting edge skills and knowledge on-the-job, making them more skilled, more employable and enhancing their career options. They are developed in partnership with industry to cater for the needs of the working environment.
Traineeships are developed by Education and Training Boards (ETB’s) throughout Ireland on an ongoing basis across a range of industries and sectors in response to identified skill needs. The variety available at present includes Greenkeeping, Business Administration, Health Service Skills, Early childhood Care & Education, Overhead Lines Operative, Engineering Operations, Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Welding Fabrication, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapist, Financial Administration, Patisserie & Confectionary, Automated software Testing, Software Developer, Animation, Tour Guiding, Sports Broadcasting and many more. Traineeships lead to an award at levels 4-6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and are between 6-24 months in duration.
Traineeships are FREE but some fees may apply. For example, with the Beauty Therapist Traineeship, learners are responsible for purchasing their own makeup kit costs. Some learners may be entitled to meal and travel allowances.
